KIDS SAVE LIVES: When Children Become Heroes

KIDS SAVE LIVES
When Children Become Heroes
Imagine a 14-year-old child facing an emergency. An adult next to them collapses from sudden cardiac arrest. Instead of freezing in panic, the child knows exactly what to do: call for help, begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation, locate the nearest defibrillator through a mobile app.
This is not science fiction.
This is the vision and reality of the organization KIDS SAVE LIVES.
A Problem Measured in Seconds
Every year, more than 350,000 people in Europe collapse from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. It can happen anywhere—in a supermarket, on a school field, on the street. The greatest enemy of survival is not the cardiac arrest itself, but the time lost until specialized help arrives. Every minute without intervention reduces the chances of survival by 10%. The solution is simple in theory: someone near the victim must act immediately.
This is exactly where KIDS SAVE LIVES steps in. The organization firmly believes that First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) should not be limited to doctors and nurses. They should be a social skill, accessible to everyone, even children.
A Revolution in Education
Since its founding, the organization has trained more than 600,000 citizens -children, teenagers, and adults- in Greece and Cyprus, free of charge. Since 2010, KIDS SAVE LIVES envisioned a new CPR and First Aid course in Greek schools, and this dream is gradually becoming reality through multiple educational programs.
The organization’s training programs address every age and need. L.I.F.E. F.O.R.C.E. introduces young children aged 6–10 to rescue concepts through play and fun, while the Basic Life Support | ERC programs offer international certifications in collaboration with the European Resuscitation Council. Athletes, teachers, volunteers. Everyone can find the right program for their needs.
Defibrillators: The Visibility Revolution
A defibrillator that cannot be found in time is as good as nonexistent. This simple truth led KIDS SAVE LIVES to create the National Defibrillator Map, an online map that records in real time the location of every defibrillator in Greece and Cyprus. Combined with the iSAVElives app, anyone can locate the nearest defibrillator in seconds, alert emergency services, and receive step-by-step CPR guidance.
An equally important achievement was the reduction of VAT on defibrillators to 6%, following a proposal by the organization that was accepted by the Ministry of Finance. The result?
In just two years, the number of registered defibrillators in Greece quadrupled. KIDS SAVE LIVES has already installed one-fifth of all registered defibrillators in the country—and continues.
Technology & Impact
KIDS SAVE LIVES embraces technology as a vehicle for saving lives. With tools such as Guided CPR, which teaches movements in just 50 seconds through a mobile phone, and the VR CPR Challenge, which uses virtual reality for training, the organization transforms learning into an immersive experience. The iSAVElives app is multilingual and fully accessible to deaf individuals and people with visual impairments. Because the right to rescue belongs to everyone, without exception.
Beyond the impressive numbers -600,000 trained citizens, thousands of registered defibrillators-, the most moving statistic is this: more than 30 cardiac arrest victims have returned to life thanks to interventions by the network of First Responders built by the organization. Hundreds more were saved from choking, fainting, seizures, and injury.
Avittia: Supporting Every Initiative
At Avittia, we believe that a defibrillator is not just a product—it is a promise. A promise that, if needed, someone will be there. That is why we actively support the work of KIDS SAVE LIVES and every initiative that aims to raise awareness about cardiac arrest, the importance of First Aid and CPR, and the installation of more defibrillators in Greece and Cyprus.
As a company specializing in defibrillators, we know better than anyone what it means to have the right device, in the right place, at the right time. But we also know that a device alone does not save lives. People who know how to use it do.
This is why the mission of KIDS SAVE LIVES resonates deeply with us: it educates people, brings communities together, and creates a safety net of active citizens who can act before the ambulance arrives.
Avittia is committed to continuing to stand by this effort, offering the best available products, supporting awareness actions, and contributing to the vision of a Greece where no one loses their life because no one nearby knew what to do or because there was no defibrillator available.
“Every defibrillator installed is a hope. Every citizen trained is a hero in waiting.”
The Next Major Goals of KIDS SAVE LIVES
- ★ 10,000 Shock Stations: Fully equipped and marked defibrillator stations across Greece.
- ★ National Registry: Creating a unified National First Responder Registry.
Change Begins With Us
KIDS SAVE LIVES reminds us of something we often forget:
The ability to save a life does not require a medical degree. It requires knowledge, courage, and the certainty that every person—young or old—can make a difference.
In a country where a 14-year-old child can save a life, the future feels a little safer.
Train your people or install a life-saving defibrillator in your space today.
